Selwyn Eathorne and Isaac Denny will act as liaison officials for those staying at College House. Selwyn and Isaac are leading players at Burnside BC and are both law students at Canterbury University.

Airport transfers and daily transport between accommodation and the greens can only be provided to those staying at College House. Games starting at 8.30am will necessitate players being at the playing venues by about 8am as two trial ends may be played before the 8:30am start. We will need to be firm on the start times as there is a time limit on games (see conditions of play).

Arrival, Departure Times and Alternative Accommodation

It is helpful for us to know when you are arriving, leaving and where you are staying. If you haven’t sent this information please e-mail kenwp@bowlsevents.co.nzwith the details.

We can then leave any extra tournament information, programmes, manager’s manual etc at your accommodation for you to receive on your arrival.

 Transport during the tournament

Teams in alternative accommodation are responsible for their own transport.

The exceptions are:

1.         On Practice Day, 11 January, players who do not have their own transport will be transported between Fendalton and Burnside for their second practice session.

2.         On Opening Day players drawn at Fendalton who do not have their own

transport will be transported from Burnside to Fendalton after the Opening

Ceremony.

3.         On Monday 15 January when the Men’s Triples and Women’s Singles play their

final section game at Fendalton. After this game and lunch at Fendalton those

without their own transport will be bussed back to Burnside for the post section

games.

Shuttle buses will run on the hour between Burnside and Fendalton. This service will start at 10 am from the 12th January on playing days and is designed to provide transport only between Fendalton and Burnside to managers, coaches and spectators wishing to see their players at both venues.

There will be parking spaces reserved for team vehicles at both venues. There should be plentiful parking available.

 Meals

Breakfast is included in the accommodation costs at College House.

Lunch will be provided to all players and accredited officials at the club each player is playing at. This arrangement will start on the practice day – January 11. On this day lunch will be provided at the venue where the morning practice session is held.

Lunch will be on a ticket only basis and managers will be given a lunch voucher book for each player and accredited official. These tickets are not transferable and the caterer is reimbursed for the tickets collected so please don’t lose the lunch vouchers as they will not be replaced.

A light snack will be provided for players playing in the third round of any day.

The ticket system will again be used and the snack boxes will be distributed between games 2 and 3.

 Practice Day and Bowls Registration

The official practice day is Thursday 11th January. This day will be timetabled and your team will be allocated at least one two hour session at each of the two venues.

Bowls Registration will be undertaken at Fendalton on the practice day between your team’s practice sessions. The Greens’ Managers will be in the Dining Room for this purpose.

The event is very fortunate to have Mike Hamel as one of its sponsors. Mike is NZ’s leading hairdresser who has developed a range of hair care products branded ‘MIKE’. Each player and team official will receive a gift voucher for hair products valued at about $80.00. This voucher can be exchanged for the products on practice day when each team is at Burnside. This process involves a brief consultation with a ‘MIKE’ rep. to ensure the product matches each individual’s hair type.

The greens at Burnside and Fendalton may be available on the 10th and if this is the case practice will be available on a shared basis fair to those teams present. Practice on local greens can be arranged for early arrivals but please give me plenty of notice and a green fee may apply.

 Merchandising

A small range of quality items embroidered ‘Asia Pacific Bowls Championship 2007, Christchurch NZ’ will be available for sale, e.g. a white or navy shirt ($40), a navy reversible vest ($60), a World Bowls hat ($15), and a sports bag ($60).

These items can be seen on www.worldbowls2008.comAsia Pacific early next week. The system used will be an order form, payment and a two day delivery time. Merchandising will be done at Burnside BC, upstairs in the committee annex.

 Henselite

Henselite will operate a shop upstairs at Burnside from Thursday 11 January selling bowling gear and bowls.

 Flags and National Anthems

We plan to fly your country’s flag at both Burnside and Fendalton. We have one flag for most countries but I need your team to bring a flag suitable for flying outside.

I would be grateful if the Norfolk Island team would bring two outside flags.

Please bring a copy of your national anthem so we can play your anthem when you win gold medals.  Please also bring a flag suitable for the march on in the Opening Ceremony. We will make each country’s name plate.

 Trophies 2005

Just a reminder to those countries that won trophies in 2005 to bring the trophies with them to Christchurch if they have not already been sent.

 Drug Testing of Athletes

Drug Free New Zealand will be drug testing at this event. Athletes and team officials need to be aware of the World Bowls Regulations and what is on the prohibited list.

 Smoking Policy

In New Zealand smoking in bars, restaurants and sporting clubs is illegal.

To avoid any misunderstanding there is a no smoking ban anywhere in the club houses, on the greens and in the grandstands.

The no smoking policy extends to accommodation such as motels, hotels and College House. You can of course smoke outside. Some establishments have designated smoking areas.

Seasons greetings and every best wish for a prosperous and happy New Year.

Travel safely and we look forward to seeing you all in Christchurch in January.

Kind regards

Ken Wilson-Pyne
