Event History
The World Bowls Championships came into being for men in 1966, when the Commonwealth Games host that year, Kingston, Jamaica, could not hold the usual tournament - they did not have any greens!
Next held in 1972/3, with the women's event added but at a different time and venue, from then on the world championships tournaments have been held on a four-yearly cycle in between Commonwealth Games events.
Last held in 2004, the men's event at Ayr in Scotland, and the women's at Royal Leamington Spa, England.
In 2008 the men's and women's events will be brought together for the first time ever, with Christchurch, New Zealand, being the host city.
