COVID 19 Message
At our Executive meeting today, 17 March, the rapidly changing situation relating to the COVID-19 virus affecting NZ and the World was discussed in depth. The following decisions were decided unanimously.
The bowls events planned for this weekend will go ahead as arranged. From Monday all Burnside Club Tournaments are cancelled. This includes Festival Bowls, the Medley Fours, Jack Forbes Trophy, the Sixes, the Triples and Pairs tournaments.
Greens will remain open but there will be no organised club bowls before the end of the season. Informal bowls may be played if members wish until closing day. The bar will be open at the usual times unless otherwise advised.
To reduce the risk of infection, please rinse any used cups in cold water and place in the dishwasher tray. When the tray is full, one of our members will put the cups through the dishwasher. All dishes should now be washed by machine.
While we regret having to cancel club events, we are making these decisions with your health and welfare in mind. Please be careful and stay well.
Philippa Johnston, President.

Orchard Trophy
Click here to view teams for Orchard Trophy – Saturday 21 September 2019 – 1-00 pm start. After last week’s downpour and season opening cancellation, Saturday’s blue skies and warmish temperatures were greeted with enthusiasm by 102 members as they stepped on to the greens to contest the Geoff Orchard Trophy. Thirty four teams were drawn to play three games of two-bowl triples on the Laing and Orchard Greens expertly prepared by Glen Miller. It was great to see full greens again after a cold winter and there were some excellent bowls played in several close games. Five unbeaten teams were rewarded with the prizes with just three of these winning all three of their games. Results 1. Clare Churcher, Carol Dawe, John Reese (S) 3 wins/16 ends/29 points - first on Orchard Green and winner of the Orchard Trophy 2. Sandy Terrinoni, Lou Dent, Ross Bell (S) 3w/15e/39p - first on Laing Green 3. Michael Weeks, Judy Davidson, Bruce Wallace (S) - 3w/13e/30p - r/u Orchard 4. Beryl Heperi, Don Lyall, Neil Cornelius (S) - 2w1d/17e/38p - r/u Laing 5. Jeff Clark, Don McClelland, Gill Abel (S) - 2w1d/12e/30p - 5th overall.
Tea, coffee, biscuits and fond memories of what could have been were reward enough for the other 87 players!
Thanks to Ken Wilson-Pyne for this well written report.
