Bowls Canterbury Champion of Champions Men's Singles Final

Today was a red letter day for our own Richard Hocking when he prevailed in the delayed Final to defeat Sean Thompson (Oxford) 21 -3 at the Belfast greens before a good sized crowd, including a good Burnside contingent.

To get to the final Richard lined up against the formidable Gary Lawson (Elmwood Park) in the semi final. Richard got out to a 6 point lead early in the game but Lawson pegged him back to be ahead 20 - 19 but a single to Richard had them at

20 - 20. In the final end Richard held his nerve and out drew Lawson for 21 - 20 victory.

Well done Richard.

Green Keeper News

The Executive are pleased to announce that Jamey Ferris has been appointed as the new Greenkeeper to join Burnside at the beginning of May 2021. Jamey has been a highly regarded Greenkeeper at the Gisborne Bowling Club for 10 years, and he was awarded 2020 Bowls New Zealand Greenkeeper of the Year. We have heard many good things about Jamey. Jamey has all the qualifications to take on the challenges at Burnside Bowling Club. He is passionate about greenkeeping and the sport in general being a current Poverty Bay representative. We are grateful to the other applicants who applied but were unsuccessful this time. Thank you to the small committee of four who met and considered all the candidates before recommending Jamey to the Executive. We knew it would be difficult to find someone to take over from our current excellent greenkeeper, so we feel very fortunate to have found someone who will meet the requirements of the position. Click here for more detail about Jamey.
