A presentation evening was held to honour the recipients of the Bowler of the Year and Volunteer of the Year. Also to celebrate Ken Prebble's retirement.
Cushla read out the long list of Jo Edwards achievements over the last few years. "Jo is always gracious in defeat and humble in victory" Jo was thrilled to receive the award but stated "All I do is play bowls."
Cushla then listed the numerous committees and activities that Ken Haworth participated in. It was a long list. The award was not for this year but for the many years that Ken had volunteered his services at the club.
Ken gave his acceptance speech and gave thanks to his wife for allowing him to spend so much time at the club. He also enlightened us as to the goings on over the tea cups at the morning tea. The topics up for discussion are too many to list but here are some. 1) The current national rugby, cricket, netball. ....team 2) What happened in last night's episode of Coronation Street. 3) Club team selections 4) Politics.
John Reese then enlightened us about Ken Prebble's career at Burnside. It has spanned quite a few years. Ken will now take over the green superintendant role and will ensure that our greens remain as always world class. Enjoy your retirement Grasshopper.

It all started with Black bowls and then along came Brown. Recently coloured bowls hit the greens and more recently speckled bowls. But now we have the next generation of coloured bowls. They are multi-coloured so that bowlers with failing eyesight can see them at the end of the rink.
